Gerard Mildner is an Assistant Professor in the School of Urban Studies and Planning at Portland State University in Oregon. Prior to joining the faculty at Portland State, Dr. Mildner taught at Hunter College and New York University. From 1985 to 1989, he also was a Research Fellow at the Manhattan Institute for Policy Research in New York City.
- Dr. Mildner has published more than a dozen studies and reports on urban development and policy issues, including a book, Scarcity by Design: the Legacy of New York City's Housing Policy (Harvard University Press, 1992), co-authored with Peter Salins.
- His professional articles have appeared in conference proceedings as well as journals such as Land Economics, and Transportation Quarterly.
- Through the Center for Urban Studies and Institute for Portland Metropolitan Studies, Dr. Mildner's research has covered urban growth boundaries, affordable housing, city parking policy, impact fees, solid waste disposal, and sports stadiums.
- Dr. Mildner's research has been presented to professional audiences of the Western Economics Association, Eastern Economics Association, the American Real Estate and Urban Economic Association, and the Pacific Northwest Regional Economic Conference.
- Gerard received his B.A. in Public Affairs from the University of Chicago in 1981 and his Ph.D. in Economics from New York University in 1991.
